MEATengines 2022...

Thanks for the welcome, you are free to use the cart analogy anytime, it was a coffee infused rant which never gets recorded for posterity!

As a quick note about my comment about PTSD...apologies if it seems I was making broad generalizations about veterans, not my intent!..I feel I should elaborate...in my area there are few clubs/groups that allow someone to connect to the outdoors as well as other people... something desperately needed by people with PTSD...I do know of a few people that have joined a riding group with an e-bike, because they need the outdoors, physical challenge, emotional connection that is sorely needed...but because of shrapnel cannot ride a full meat powered bike (yet)...I still stand firm in non e-bike land...but I can still play devil's advocate for some use-cases...consedering the local alternatives for guys/girls like that are few and far between, I encourage that...not trying to paint generalities, mind....I know plenty who deal just fine (we have the densest populus of vets in the USA)...but have seen some that I can't fault for e-biking...

Back to normal programming...

Tell me more about this double hardtail riding good sir.

@Endurimil

Mad props for bouncing back the way that you did, that's definitely a tough one! Glad you are back to riding, I hope you continue to recover! Thank you for sharing.

While issues around disabilities and PTSD are real and serious they are red herrings/strawmen in the context of mountain bikes vs. BroPeds. It would be like tobacco companies justifying selling cigarettes because they give socially awkward folks a way to connect with people in group setting that would otherwise see them isolated. That's not the real intent of the BroPed manufacturers nor the tobacco companies and their "solutions" cause all sorts of negative outcomes such that the end result isn't positive in the big picture.

I agree wholeheartedly on the corporate justification, again, I am very against e-bikes. Simply playing devil's advocate for certain use cases that may seem justifiable however scarce those circumstances may be. Granted that argument can only exist if e-bikes exist, and I definitely have been against how the industry has pushed them as the savior of our sport. It would be as if podiatrists and physical therapist we're recommending segways as "walking, but better!"

These are of course my opinions, and I am in no way trying to convince anybody that my opinion is the only right way. You do you as they say. Just simply airing some things out. I will say that as the sport moves closer to ebikes and electronics on all things, going back to single speeding seems like a better idea everyday. It's not that hard of a stretch for me though, I am commonly the only guy in the group with a steel hardtail.

Just a quick friendly reminder that all angles of ebike debate (aside from directly relating to PTSD applications, that's unique) have been covered countless times over, in this thread:

Apologies, not trying to derail.

Back on subject, can we get a #DHT sticker in the store? Cause that would be awesome.

Maybe a MEATengine store?

Just a thought

Based on what I've read it seems like we agree on the topic for the most part.

It’s been a work in progress way too long but I shared it because I’m committed. I don’t want to make it anonymous but I also want it to be real so it’s been a challenge and I play with the format. It’s launching this Spring for sure and after the first half dozen I plan to start accepting nominations for MEATengines-mechanic (and floor staff) folks I can reach out to, anywhere.

I need a FAQ maybe.

“Why aren’t there MEATengines stickers?”

Originally because I KNOW my first friend who asked was going to put it straight onto his BroPed.

Now because I don’t have a logo. It’s something I’ve been playing with though.

I’ve actually been thinking of doing retro sticker packs. And by retro I mean, the way things were bitd. I’d get sticker packs done and then folks can mail me a self-addressed, pre-stamped, envelope with $5 and get $5 worth of stickers back.

“Why isn’t there a MEATengines store?”

WTF would I sell?

Actually, once I have a logo I have a dream of covering the site costs by selling one-speed cogs with my logo laser-etched into them.

Just purple 22t cogs? Hahahaha. I honestly just considered how many other sizes and colours the damn things come in.

There’s still not going to be a store. Self-addressed bubble mailer? Hahahaha. No, I think PayPal and a trip to post once a week is probably doable.

Thank you.

MEATengines = what the engine’s made of, not what it’s fuelled by.
