Same, that's all I've been buying lately. Work well, great price and free delivery via envelope mail for small quantities.

I would like this saddle for a frankenbike

cross between a 1990s road bike/xc race bike and a 1960s chopper/mustang/stingray

any photos?

I've got a double clear coat over raw on my 2013 Samurai65 and it has a very cool spider web patina that's developed under the clear coat on the low impact areas of the frame, elsewhere like the bottom of the downtube where more rock strikes have impacted its more just solid rust-like patina. Have considered repainting a few times, but it's pretty unique imo.

Bummer, I was unaware that clear coated steel has corrosion issues. I never had any hint of rust on my dirt jumper, but I only had it for 3 or 4 years.

3-4 years is pretty good going.  Who ever coated it must have known what they were doing.  I'm getting more tempted to give it a go - worst case is you get it cleaned up and repainted.

3-4 years as a dj. I mostly rode street, with street tires. So front tire kicking rocks into the dt wasn't happening like it would on an mtb, which Flip mentioned was the problem area.

I hear you. I was excited to pick up a cheap Rootdown frame  and didn't mind the ton of gravel scars all over it because I thought I'd be able to strip it and clear coat it. I was also disappointed to read why this was such a bad idea. So nail polish to touch it up for now and start saving for some Toxik work down the line.
But I like scars and visible signs of useage on a bike so maybe I'll start using a different colour for the touchup paint

I wouldn't call it 'corrosion issues' personally as I really like the effect, and don't think it affects the frame's integrity.

My hammers are covered in those patterns. I always imagine that there are tiny metal eating bugs in them

Wow! I agree, that is beautiful! Tho, I can see why bike companies have shied away from it.

That rust must logically exist under that paint on a decent number of steel bikes. Just can’t see it … I mean if moisture is creeping under clear coat it can get under paint too.
