$2k?
Gucci rear hub (p321 g3, likely?). Maybe a custom Ti handlebar?
Maybe a Gucci fork?

I’m really liking these answers so far.
@eriksg the education angle is something I hadn’t considered, but is a great idea. I had wanted to go to the Waltworks framebuilding school really badly at one point, but logistics and Covid got in the way.

So…What would you rather do with $2000 if you had to spend it on a battery- and motor-free bicycle product?
After a bit of thought and not considering the dream parts wish list. Couple of ways to go with this.
A: Get a second hand frame similar to the Stylus or maybe get Marino to build a copy of an early Stylus or Samurai instead. Once have in hand get the guy at True North to install those S&S couplers. Was thinking of this in January with some travel later this year and if had a bike like this would be easy to travel with. And if any left over and enough find an old Chromag frame if possible.
Or
B: find an old Chromag TRL and maybe a Stylus. Build it up and resume riding shit locally that those with bigger wheels fear to ride.🤣 And any money left over get any parts I can off the used market.

I have a meat-powered question to ask of the ME Forum patrons: Since we are now in a world where robot derailleurs are apparently required to shift gears on robot-assisted-bikes with durability and precision, the costs are spiralling completely out of control. I’ve started hearing everything from completes to cars to kidneys compared to the cost of the SRAM Transmission system.
Funny thing when you mention costs spiralling. It seems that won’t have to worry about shifters and derrailleurs for a while costs wise. Keep getting old stuff given to me by club members while hey are busy upgrading to the more recent. 🤣
Long live the Dirtbag.😝🤣🤣

On the custom front, I’ve been thinking of getting some MEATengines cogs made forever. Just 22t. Or maybe 20 & 22t. In black & purple. I don’t even know what that looks like, but I’d get some.
I've been looking into chainrings. I'm still on XT M8000 cranks so 30T is as small as it gets in oval. I've managed to scrounge a few inners from the 2x setup but they're rare. Not NW or oval but the SLX ones are steel...
Since we're custom, why not 27 tooth? Oval eccentricity is somewhere between One-Up and Absolute Black. Should be fine for SS (no NW) and I had good luck with a chainguide on the geared setup. Should be a simple water-jet cut and touch of filing?
Who knew that the circumference of an ellipse pretty much needs to be found numerically.

Are they back in operation? After the Stan’s partnership with 321 and then the Stan’s sale at peak Covid bike boom levels I became a bit nervous about 321. I like the reviews on the G2 hubs, but I’m not optimistic on seeing a G3 anytime soon.

Yep, the 10x price spread on viable drivetrains is ridiculous. Awesome that you can leverage that into a few good freebies!

I’d guess you could make a pile of those rings with that image and 2k. Have you looked into any makerspace companies? Laser cutting might be another option.

I used to run 33t rings on my one-speed but narrow-wide basically killed the odd tooth count rings, at least combined with my love of oval.

The last pre-production or first-production hubs are being made now. I’ll be on a set prior to release and then doing a long-term and long-long term review. Haven’t seen them yet but I have rims ready to go.
The new owner/designer/production outfit in Ontario seem like a really down to earth company trying to take their time and make certain what they release is dialled from day one.
Some details are embargoed but they were surprisingly cool about me talking about being part of the pre-release feedback loop.
I got told a likely public showing of g3 at Sea Otter this year, and production etc some time after that.
Super cool custom chainring idea. If you do make them, let us all know about how it goes.
That reminds me that all the 26T rings have been out of stock for months and months, so far as I can tell. I was trying to get one for my wife's bike but settled on another 28.
Different view on drivers and bike infrastructure.
"Fifty bucks" cracked me up.
I used to work at my buddy's bakery, washing dishes and helping clean up. We had just closed for the evening. Chairs are put up, lights are off, door is locked. Hours are clearly on the door along with the big CLOSED sign. I am mopping up the front of the store when I hear someone banging on the door. I look up and see a customer pointing at me and then at the closed door. I was young and didn't know better, so instead of ignoring them or pointing back at the closed sign, I unlocked the door.
"Are you open?" they asked impatiently. I just stood there stunned until my buddy came up and told them we were closed, they have to come back another time and shut the door.
I don't understand what is going through people's heads when they do stuff like that.
2K to spend?
RFX36 M.2 and a TTX22. Jenson has them on sale right now and you could get both for under 2k.

Cheers! It's a story that I'm certain transcends every retail environment. One of the reasons everyone should work a retail job at some point, it's clear who's conscious of closing times and who is not.
