Read on for our intro, our intent, and a good look at the wheeled beauties...

Nice!

can't wait to read about the outcome of this test.

In one part it's going to be interesting to compare the times, but I have a feeling some people might need a bit more time on the 29er than just back to back rides - especially if this is their first taste of 29ers. 26" is what they know and have been riding for years - therefore it might get the nod.

I know for one that I didn't particularly enjoy my first 29er experience, but with time, it grew on me.

Can't wait to read this test. I'm already planning to buy a 29er so this is perfect.

My request is to have a pair of riders tear it up together, on the same trail. One lap on the 26" rig, and then a second lap on the 29er for each rider, and see how it shakes out. I recently had the revelation of riding with a long-time riding partner while he was aboard his Tallboy and I really noticed where he was gaining ground and/or getting away from me on my 26" steed.

I'm not so interested in the lap times as the qualitative feedback. Will the slightly-shorter-travel 29er ride the same as the Comp? Will the traditional bike be more nimble? And will these wheels hold up on the shore?!!?

Cool idea, very curious to see how the differences in suspension shake out. I'm thinking that the longer travel 26" will do better, especially if the trails contain a lot of drops. Also I worry for the 29" wheels durability. If the trails are rough, and a big rider makes a mistake on 29" wheels…taco time?

My new AM rig is the bone stock EVO 26. It is one of the most fun bikes i have ever ridden. Im not sure if i would ever consider a 29'er for myself, but it will be interesting to hear the comparisons. I do think comparing the specs are a bit skewed, as the lighter carbon frame and components make up for some of the weight of the larger wheel set. And the price difference is substantial.
Lucky testers.

Definitely excited to see the outcome from this. I love my Stumpy EVO 26", and if there is a better bike out there, I would like to give it a go!
Predictions: Faster times on 29er, more fun on 26er.
Requests: Take them on some jump trails, I am yet to see anyone looking really comfortable in the air on a 29er (and I don't mean "that's sick considering he's on a 29er" I mean "that is sick period".)

^^^^HA! well there you go, i did not know that. I guess the carbon 26 was off my radar for the $ factor, and was not looking at any 29's at all. If i had more loot i would have went with carbon 26 EVO.
