2 more rides on the DBa, for a total of 3. Re-checked sag on the second ride, and it was way over the 20mm initially set. Air pressure was still at 120psi, and it took 150psi to get it back to 30%/20mm. This felt a bit harsh, even with HSC all out. Dropped sag to ~40%/25mm @ 130psi. This shock runs well for me in this range. Not done tuning, but I'm not expecting it will match my DBc in performance. I have a feeling I'll be running the DBc most often, with the DBa serving as a backup/long XC ride option. No surprise it boils down to a typical weight vs performance(/durability?) trade off. Only time will tell, but typically coil shocks have been more durable than air for me, and when they do puke, they don't collapse. As it stands now, if I were limited to one high end shock, it would still be the Ti DBc. If the DBa has anywhere near the durability my DBc has had (user rebuild on air can is awesome), it should make the short list for those who want to save the weight.

This is where the DB Air confuses me… you should be able to run 25-30% sag and then use LSC and HSC to tune the ride and expect full travel. As I understand it the Nomad is a fairly linear VPP design compared to my Uzzi which has a rising rate so the DB Air should be able to handle this, but it seems to fall short.

I'm running a db air on my session 88-a fairly progressive suspension design-with 30% sag and haven't had trouble using most, if not all, of the travel.. Still adjusting it to my liking but rides great so far. Has a bottomless feel to it.

I'm curious to hear what Arthur has to say about the CCDB air.

Hi Arthur !

this is Tom from Germany, thanks for the perfect Service and the Exchange Shock to keep me rolling, while you rebuilt my shock :D

I am very intrested in your review of the CCDB AIR, as i like my CCDB Coil a lot.

CCDB Air + Knolly Chili seems to be the mtbr combo de jour of 2012

I'm still not 100% sold on the DB air at least on my Uzzi… but I haven't ridden it in pure anger yet either, so maybe I should just shut up and ride.:)

Hi I want to ask you for some advice, I'm buying a intense tracer 2 26 with fox 34-160 and the dealer gave me the option of the CCDBair or the fox rp23 kashima. This is my first full suspension bike. Every weekend we ride for 30 to 40 km of xc but most of the descents have 2 ways, one for xc and another for am, and I like to take the second. I know the CCDBair doesn't have propedal or something, but I want my new bike to be unstopable. So I need your advise and a question… Could the CCDBair be tuned to go uphill fine and to go downhill taking all the benefits of a DBair at the same time?

I have heard that the Tracer 2 does not ride too well with the RP23. I have a Double Barrel Coil on my own and it rides fantastic. I would seriously consider the DB Air over the DB coil to shed some weight(mine is 35#). I am hoping with a fork/wheel swap I can get the weight down to around 32#s.
