I agree in principle except the PM (and IS) standard have been around long enough to be a standard that usual manufacturing tolerances can hit quite easily (although the recent SRAM UBM patent filing suggests that it is harder to achieve for the frame mounted rear brake). +20 mm is plus 20 mm (all the X03 version based on imperial should be dropped) however the OE adapters are ugly and sometimes heavy (but mainly just butt ugly) where as every part on my bike should be aesthetically pleasing and bring a smile to my face when I consider it (as well as doing its intended job properly).
Thankfully there are companies like NS Billet, Freedom, Trickstuff that bring aesthetically pleasing bling to this category of bike accessories.
Oh and I agree on the 2 mm hex, only slightly less annoying than Shimano continuing to use a slotted screw driver interface on the pin for XTR brakes.
And if anyone needs almost any size of OE brake adapter please DM me and you can have any one of the 30-40 unused adaptors (for the price of the post) that have been provided with brakes over the past 10 years that sit in a tub in my work shop looking for a purpose in life.
