Because the high pivot location.
My understanding is that on a single pivot bike, like the new Supreme DH V4, a
high pivot location results in a better arc for the rear wheel to react to the
ground. The trade off is that it's very susceptible to chain tension issues. I
think under tension, the swingarm is harder to compress, someone correct me if
I'm wrong.
The idler pulley on the swingarm removes/reduces the effect of chain tension
from the suspension function.
