I don't think the issue is directly the consumer. The issue is the product
managers at bike companies. No consumer in their right mind would buy a Boost
wheelset and fork aftermarket as an upgrade, but the stuff ends up on complete
bikes and consumers weigh it as a small con in a package they are otherwise
okay to buy. That is how these standards proliferate.
