Come on, the big picture is they need to generate profits and this is highly profitable. Has nothing to do with it being correct to the ethos of riding bicycles.
This feels a lot like a scooter, auto shifts and low powered motorcycles...
Now, I do appreciate what Shimano has done with Link Glyde, super cool stuff and although one obviously driven by profit, it's one that will have huge performance benefits for millions and millions of riders for many years.
