A certain manufacturer's rep once told me that 85% of their sales were covered by size medium and large (XS, S and XL represented 15% of their sales).
As a tall rider with a long inseam who needs an XL frame (pref with a 440 - 455 mm chain stay) I think that at least 80% of R&D should go into making my XL bike perfectly balanced but that is not how the design & marketing teams see it.
