This is some textbook McNamara Fallacy.  And I say that as someone who owns multiple helmets, all with MIPS. Hell, my 21mo old kid wears a MIPS helmet - why not, right? But the only real reason there is "it probably doesn't hurt". There's no real hard data that I'm aware of that demonstrates its better.
