I would consider it a dealbreaker to have to adjust waist tension on any shorts/pants during a ride and these are not cheap shorts.
My favorite shorts are Patagonia Landfarer. They're great in the heat and have a simple button closure at the top with an elastic waist to contour to whatever position you're in. Not to mention they're "only" $80.
