As a bit of a major zombie resurrection because these threads show up on Google long after they comments die out- Regarding lever compatibility - I toppled over on the steep armored climb near the top of salamander and broke a lever blade on my mt trail sports.  I was able to fit a carbon MT8/Trail SL style lever blade by pushing out the small plastic bushing in the lever and swapping over the actual metal plunger piece that actuates the master cylinder. You also have to use the return spring from the carbon lever, flipped over.  Headed to whistler and needed two functional brakes and the carbon one was handy. So necessity became the mother of invention. I'll be buying another carbon lever to do the other side soon.  IMO this is a great min/max, the cheaper brakes with more pad clearance but with the primo levers.
