The steep STA thing for me is not really so much putting weight on your arms/shoulders, but more so the lack of or disengagement of the ability to use the bigger muscles in your legs, Glutes. I always liken it to the World Records for seated leg press vs standing squat, the seated leg press weight is DOUBLE what the standing squat is, and having a steeper STA is equivalent of moving fromĀ  a seated press to standing squat. I'm not a fan of the modernĀ  day pie plates on the cassettes and 30-32t chainrings, I like to put down power, climb at a decent pace, if not as fast as I can and those steep STAs _(steeper than 74* for me)_ just don't let you do that.
