In my experience,  * The tool is an absolute joy to use. So well thought out. * You'll hardly ever need to use the tool as you said. My buddy owns one... * I have a hub from 2003 that is now relegated to a SS pump track/ ride to the park with kids bike. Still smooth on original bearings. * My dh bikes for 10 years had the stainless hubshell, its now swapped to the old hub because it's single speed so I'll give that to my grandchildren! * Slickoleum or slick honey is a decent substitute for ring drive lube. * I also still have that matching Ti key ring from the first batch Crombie made. Slightly unrelated but cool as shit! I bought a "flogged out" dh hub off a privateer member of the Australian DH team a few years back for a project bike. Stripped it down and found the spring that engages the ring drive was comparatively looser than my other hubs (3 full UCI seasons will do that) but otherwise with some new grease it was as new.
