I know nothing about anything, but, this being the internet, I'm going to chime in anyway. Yeah, the shifter unit is way more bulky and powerful than required for dropper post actuation, but I bet you could have the thing pull a cam of some sort to translate a short, strong, cable pull to a faster pull appropriate for droppers.
I've had one of these on my bike for the past 2 years and I'll never go back to pure mechanical shifting. I've swapped out cassettes and destroyed a derailleur and it's been awesome that I don't have to care what brand is or is not compatible.
