As a resident of a riding zone that does fit exactly this setup well - I think you absolutely nailed it.  With a mixture of wide open terrain, the odd tight area that does benefit maneuverability, and places where slightly sloggy climbs with lots of switchbacks are interspersed with high speed chunder sections where the pick-and-place riding style can work really well, that setup would work... That being said, in those same situations, my 6'2" idiot self would still be faster, happier, and ultimately more intact rocking a FS 29er.
