Let me add a comparison to v3 Bronson, as I switched over when the new one came out. I've ridden the v3 a LOT.
Overall, it's a noticeable improvement. I also didn't have big interest in 29's, but my upgrade came result of a frame warranty.
A slacker front with a bigger wheel allows me to drop into steep nasty stuff with more confidence and less chance of OTB :) This is going to be true for most recent bikes compared to the v3 bronson where many trail bikes are now pushing 63 degree HTA.
I don't feel it's any less playful or poppy than the previous one. The old bronson for me was great at plowing - the harder and faster i went through rough stuff, the smoother it felt and this new one continues and improves on this. I feel like the bigger wheel up front carries through the roots and rocks better, and a slacker front makes you ride OVER obstacles instead of running into them. New one also feels more stable at speed, and landing jumps into less than smooth landings.
I don't care about the rear much as long as it generally stays behind the front wheel while I'm riding. Compared to my full 29" DH bike, the room out back is appreciated. Mullet to me basically feels like all the benefits of 29 without any of the tradeoffs or downsides. Overall for my 5'10" size, I like the mullet but have no problems quickly adjusting to a full on 29 as well.
Could not possibly care less about clearing tech climbs. If I don't clear something, I'll push it past the obstacle and save energy for another lap. Riding = descending for me :)
Unless I was riding A-Line/jump trails all day and needed to move the bike in the air, I'm converted to 29" at least for the front for north shore/sea to sky riding.
