the coverage of this year's sscxwc seems to imply it is a sui generis event,
which isn't accurate. if anything (i'm sure there are earlier, even more
grassroots antecedents) it's a sissified (see: big wheels, carbon fibre, disk
brakes, etc.), corporatized (see: GIANT bikes' sscxwc branded, pre-packaged
bacon handups), copy of portland's annual mini bike winter event, to the point
that it started years later, in the same city. in terms of spectacle,
shenanigans, carnage, and "not being about the bike", sscxwc doesn't look to
hold a candle to the mayhem that is mini bike winter. seb, if you really want
to see just how deep the rabbit-hole goes (assuming it hasn't been watered
down over the years) consider an earlier trip to portland in 2016
