My [recent experience](https://nsmb.com/articles/blowing-minds-santa-cruz-blur/) with the Santa Cruz Blur really backs up the point about the tires. Sure, it's a light bike, but the biggest difference between that bike and anything I usually ride is the tires - the difference was so vast that I think it's in the double digits for the percentage speed increase over what I usually ride (EXO+ or DD Assegai or Minions).
