If you've got a broad regime of activity (abstract ways to build strength and conditioning in the gym, other sports) and regularly get in lots of movement/ rehab/ prehab/ maintenance work then _riding becomes a way to express fitness_ rather than an incomplete way to build it. Most of the guys I used to ride with who "got all the fitness they needed on the bike bro" aren't doing very well now and almost none of them are riding at a high level anymore.
