Figured something like that may have happened.
At a macro level though, how much do you really think this will matter? It’s hard for me to believe that someone with the potential to compete at the top of the sport won’t be able to make the transition and then move up. It seems like the only people this will wash out are the people who were going to scrape by at the middle or bottom of the field for a few years before moving on anyway. Which is a shame for them personally, but not really a big difference going forward.
Maybe I’m overestimating the predictability of athlete development in DH though. It’s certainly uncool that the rules and timeframe for their careers changed so late in the game, but what else is new. Covid sucks.
