Good question. I would think for most people on an L/XL, this isn't going to be much of a problem. When (if) I remember, I'll slide the post all the way down to see if there is any interference. I'm thinking that it probably looks worse than it is. If you look at the photo, it looks like a fair amount of clearance beneath the kink that is open to the bottom of the post, if that makes sense. It looks like it would probably bottom out at a point just slightly above where the top rear of the water bottle sits.
