Honestly, this is still a good thing, because not everybody rides in places where trees that predate our own existence are perilously close to the trail. I also feel like larger softer grips are a perfectly adequate way to compensate for bar compliance, but again, large hands, and I struggle to find grips where my fingertips aren't colliding with the base of my hands when squeezing
