I suspect that part of the mis-information isn't just the dealer, or the manufacturer...it's any link in the chain. So the expectations are all correct...based on the initial communication. But then there's the hiccup.
Bikes are made of many components, and a lot of those components involve several other components or suppliers...it just takes one delay to snow ball. That custom casting for that shifter? Let's say it's 2 weeks delayed. Now the entire shipment of that order for that groupo is delayed. Frames pile up while waiting for parts....and then they have to find a new slot in the assembly time-frame. It's nothing new, but given the growth scale, production forecasting, and manufacturing limitations, the scale of the hiccup is much larger.
