One of the reasons I'm so big on the Jaybird Vistas is that you can just use one at a time, meaning you're well able to hear what's going on around you. It's not our place to tell people whether to listen to music while riding or not. And you're right that it's not your place, either ;)  I listen to podcasts often while climbing, and I don't think it detracts too much from the experience. Music - for me - doesn't work that well while riding, whereas I do like it when xc skiing, for example, and I don't think I could ever tolerate running without music. So, if you're a runner and a rider and music is considered standard stuff for running, are we applying a double standard if we criticize people for riding with earbuds in? If they can keep it safe, I'd say yes - that's unfair judgment.
