This is a massive subject to get involved in, and a lot of it is above my knowledge level so I can only go on real-world testing experience, hopefully, I will have a data system soon to test things furthur. But, the main difference between the Ochain and a hub with a lower engagement is that the Ochain is spring-loaded and rotates back to its resting position so there is always some slack available for the next bump (maybe on some fast repeated hits it won't have time to return?) A hub with say 12º of engagement could give anything down to 0º of movement depending on the position of the pawls when the suspension starts to move. I hope that makes sense!
