I'm not racing anyone up the hill and in both cases I had heavy rubber and coil shocks. Even used the same fork on both for quite a bit (just with the fork lowered on the Rifty) and I'd say seated and turning the pedals they are equal pedalers.  There's a point pounding down rough trails where the AT is definitely more bike - faster, more stable, etc - which I suppose is obvious based on geo and travel, but the Rifty with a -2° angleset was really capable and it more interesting (not in a scary way) on the tight janky trails I like best.
