People get upset over new stuff because it devalues their old stuff. I don't
think many bikers care on a personal level what their fellow bikers run, but
the comments section on drivetrain release articles are a (often poorly
articulated) rallying call for those with now-outdated gear to speak with
their dollars. "Nobody needs that" usually means "let's not buy that, and if
you do, you're hurting us all."
