I remember removing a shock from a Patriot frame years ago (god knows why) and having to get help flexing the swingarm over enough to get it bolted back in. I hung that frame back up and bought something else.  I feel like this was more of an issue BITD, like you said, but is all a variable like Noel says. When you're saving a bunch of money, is that one of the ways that money is being saved?  Now; who's checking head angles - 1 deg of tolerance is the number I've heard? And that makes your super sweet new slack and long machine perhaps no better than last years (completely obsolete and unrideable, borderline dangerous) model if the tolerance goes the 'wrong' way.
