Sorry to revive (hopefully) this discussion... I'm building a Commencal Meta AM HT for my daughter and finding a fork has proven harder than I thought. I contacted Commencal to see if the bike would handle ok with a shorter offset fork (their build are all with 51mm offset forks). They said it would slow the steering too much and completely change the handling of the bike... I find it strange cause other brands with similar hardtail (HA65, STA 74, 140-160mm fork) are using 42 or 44mm offset for their bikes (for example Norco Torrent). Two years later, with more experience on those shorter offset forks what do you guys think? Is it relevant for a AM hardtail (we see lots of article on the subject but mainly for FS bikes). At the moment, if I cannot find a decent used fork, I might go with a 150mm Marzocchi Bomber Z2 available in 44 and 51mm offset... Any suggestion or input appreciated. Louis
