Just saw this - and yes, it was a lot more common a decade ago but why pay for pink Shimano fluid with all those additives for heat management when you can just hit London Drugs and get great braking and relief for skin irritations in the same bottle!
I've also had a few incidents of folks bleeding their own brakes and then coming into the shop because the brakes had seized up. Open the masters and "wait, is that DOT fluid?" followed by "Yes, what else would you use in brakes?" I've often thought that Shimano, Magura, Formula, etc need to print 'MINERAL OIL ONLY' with a much bigger font.
But yeah, I guess if you're trying to justify buying some new brakes that's one way to make sure your old ones are garbage. Unless if they're Formulas in which case you could strip them down, clean them, and replace all the seals.
