I've been using a [Blackburn outpost corner bag](https://www.blackburndesign.com/p/outpost-corner-bike-frame-bag) combined with a fanny pack. Getting those out of the fanny pack was enough to make it much more comfortable, and the blackburn seems to keep the crap out nicely.
