I just don't see the average consumer going for less power. More. MORE. **MORE!**
The USA screwed up by setting the defacto e-bike standard at 750 watts and 20mph. 500 and 15 would have been smarter for managing our trail resources. But this whole thing grew up around commuter bikes, and MTB is just an add-on for the industry.
I'm not a proponent nor a hater. I do think we'll need a lot more trails, and soon. But if I'm honest, I'll want to ride one when I'm 15+ years older with no cartilage left in my knees. I'm sure as hell not going to give up going into the mountains and trying to get away from the masses.
But damn, the trails that allow these things are going to get crowded. I really wish the MFRs understood this and would help us build more, and soon. I don't think they understand that the average trail is 7 years from idea, approval, funding to construction.
The answer, as always, is that we need more trails.
