This is so true about the side to side wear. I am finding that SRAM Eagle chains don’t really elongate much but the lateral play starts to make shifting sloppy and chains may start to drop then too. Oneup claims that a chain guide will extend chain life although I don’t have any way to know if that’s true. It certainly won’t increase wear. Fortunately I’m old and kinda cloth eared so I can’t hear if my chain is slapping around noisily or not.
