It's never a problem now. It's a problem a few years down the line when the
support dries up. You'll probably always find a part to keep you running, but
it will get harder and harder and the selection will be limited. And if you do
want a new bike, none of your fancy parts will swap over. There's absolutely
nothing wrong with not worrying about this stuff and continuing to ride what
you have. This is just questioning why we continually need these improvements
that make it more difficult to do just that.
