It is 100% true.
Also true of most (all?) non-Gore-Tex membrane waterproof breathable jackets
as well.
Every couple of washes I throw my Polartec Neoshell jacket in the drier and
every few months I give it a bath in Nikwax wash-in DWR treatment.
Other than the jacket being a bit ugly from crashing/wear/trailside bike
repairs it works 100% as new after two years.
