Give credit where it's due. Surly basically made the bike with their early Pugsley and Moonlander fat bike offerings. Rigid steel. They had Microshift thumbies which I assume can swap to friction shifting (but if not swap out for some Shimano barcons on Paul thumbie adapters). Mechanical discs, usually bb7s, swappable front, and back wheels so it could be run single speed if all else fails. But at least uncle dave's bike is still fun. I might consider a leaf spring fork also, but then I'd lose the swappability of wheels. I admit fat bike tires might not be the best option for finding replacements but they are pretty desirable for their go anywhere-ability.
