The criticisms you state mostly concern the early days of those companies bikes.
Do you know about early Nicolai bikes? Heavy as pig iron, crappy kinematics, weird geometry.
But all of them eventually ended up making great bikes.
I haven't ridden a Revel and don't know anyone trustworthy who has, so the verdict is very much up in the air. But it's certainly possible that they are good. Or that they will be on the second attempt.
Even if the rear end is designed by canfield. Just because something has been done before does not mean it is bad.
