I still lament the days of top mount thumb shifters - and I usually ran them
in friction mode when I had them. A hardtail with that setup sounds perfect to
me. It may be naïve nostalgia, but stubbornness and a willingness to embrace
it would probably force me to accept that setup as gospel if I committed to
it. Might have to make it happen.
