I have some pretty good stories about ‘those’ lights just dying in the woods - but I also know some folks who have years on their Magic Shine etc lights without issue.  I recommend starting with an all-in-one or two and then - if someone really likes night riding - investing in a great system (amortize your life) but it’s certainly not the only option. Some things to remember: Advertised lumens are pretty meaningless with the exception of a couple brands that go out of their way to really test lights. A lot of companies run really cold LEDs which give the impression of brightness until you’re on the trail. Like rain gear, what works for an individual is going to vary.
