I'm no fan of square taper, but there are a good number of parts available for
that standard from excellent manufacturers. And, @Tehllama42 is right, not
being able to move your current parts over to a new frame is exactly the
problem. It's more than a casual 'poor me I can't use my old stuff' thing- it
encourages buying low quality, disposable parts (consumerism) that has
consequences for personal and global resources as well as producing more
waste. For me, the performance improvement needs to be judged in that context,
and I don't feel that has been well considered with some recently introduced
standards.
