To be clear, Bill HR1349 is about rescinding the ban against human-powered mechanisms, implemented by various bureaucracies, and restoring the intent of Congress in the original bill to allow bicycling as a permissible use. It was proposed by the Sustainable Trails Coalition and sponsored by Congressman McClintock. DecisionsĀ on individual trails will still be made by local officials, but if passed there will no longer be a blanket ban, which affects many miles of trails in Wilderness Areas and Wilderness Study Areas. I wrote to the committee directly to support the Sustainable Trails Coalition, despite being Canadian, noting my variousĀ trips to the US, and encourage everyone to do the same to help mountain bikers everywhere.
