Now that's funny. Specially the part about the engineer sleeping in a cardboard box. When I moved into my current house in 1980 I bought a second hand freezer from the fifties. I sanded the rust of the lid and fixed the lining. 37 years latter the freezer is still working. Its not as stiff as the newer freezers but, 60 years is not bad.
