I wouldn't use the word "edgy" to describe those bars because they're
mainstream, and typically a chain. And, as someone who moved to North America
after growing up elsewhere, this aspect of the culture here strikes me as
fucked. I love drinking in bars and pubs but hate having someone be fake nice
to me, and dressing provocatively just to pry a bigger tip from me. I don't
reinforce that behaviour and it just disappoints them.
