I would hazard a guess that 99% of Strava users use it just as you describe.
It is exactly what I like it for. It also makes ride tracking super easy with
direct uploads from the phone and there is the bonus of seeing how I stack up
against some of the faster riders in town.
The Strava debate is just another example of the online mountain bike
community taking itself to seriously.
