Excellent review. I had a similar experience with that tire too. I had cut a
sidewall on a Purgatory control and was close to a shop that sold those. It
seemed like the best tire for me from their selection which was limited so I
bought it and continued my ride. It has been fine all summer. Last evening on
lower Seymour though it was slipping and sliding all over on damp greasy
rocks. May have just been the conditions but I had a hate on for that tire
last night.
I think you point out a good point too. We all have pre conceived notions
about all kinds of stuff but we should keep a more open mind and just ride a
bike and see if it works for us regardless of wheel size, suspension or
materials. A good bike is a good bike. There are shitty bikes in all
categories.
