I recently picked up a $1500 hardtail. I have as much fun on it as I do on my
$4500 all mountain bike. Sure, my all-mountain bike has dual suspension and
higher end, lighter parts, but the entry level parts on my hardtail get the
job done. Once you go above a certain threshold, spending more is mostly bling
and diminishing returns.
