#!markdown I solved this question for myself by trying not to replace stuff unnecessarily. Bikes are costly enough to maintain without giving in to pointless upgradeitis. If I'm riding a lot stuff wears out more quickly so my gear fixation gets met that way, the best way. Then every so often you need to start from scratch and get a whole new bike with all the latest standards - and I'm totally cool with a full fresh start every 3 years or so.
