There is one thing I did when cutting another pair of brakes. I put the lever
in an upright position so that the oil couldn't drip out and filled it with a
bit more brake fluid (all the way to the end of the thread). I've had the
caliper hanging down so the oil couldn't drip from the hose, then assembled it
back and the rear brake was near perfect 😉
But you can do that only with the brakes off the bike..
